Shoaib Akhtar – Pakistan (1997)


The right hand bowler from Pakistan is famous for his ferocious deliveries. He is regarded in the history of cricket as the fastest bowler. Humorously called the “Rawalpindi Express”, he appeared for his first Test match in November 1997 and played his first One Day International (ODI) four months after it. In the 2003 World Cup, he bowled a fast delivery which was recorded at a speed of 161.3 km/hr (100.2 mph) against England. He was the first bowler to be recorded bowling over 100 mph.

Shaun Tait – Australia (2010)


The player from Australia was one of the fastest bowlers in cricket. Generally he bowled at speeds at 155 km/hr and above. Against Pakistan in 2010, he threw a ball at 160.7 km/hr, in Australian grounds. But his fastest delivery came against England at Lord’s. The speed measured was 161.1 km/hr.

Brett Lee – Australia (2002)


The legendary bowler from Australia is ranked below Shoaib and Tait. His fastest ball came against New Zealand at Napier in 2002, clocking 160.8 km/hr.

Jeffrey Thompson – Australia (1970)


Another Australian bowler, he was active during the 1970s. During a net practice session in 1975 he bowled a ball at 160.45 km/hr. One year later in a cricket match he timed a delivery of 160.58 km/hr, the fastest in his life.

Mitchell Starc – Australia (2015)


This youngster is playing in all the Australian squads i.e. T20I, ODI and Test Squads. On 15.11.2015 during an ongoing Test match, he created history by delivering a fast ball of 160.4 km/hr at the WACA Stadium. This is the fastest ball bowled on the Perth pitch, and in his career.

Morne Morkel – South Africa (2003)


But the history making fastest ball was bowled in India. It was during the 2013 IPL match between Delhi Daredevils and Pune Warriors India that the feat was achieved. The speed of the fastest ball ever bowled in the world was 173.9 km/hr. It was delivered by Delhi bowler Morne Morkel.
